The retail food court locations at WCU, operated by Aramark, offer a wide variety of quality dining options for the University students, staff, and guests. Providing meals for thousands of people per day requires a great deal of effort and resources across many functions.
One common issue in any busy food court setting, including Universities, Shopping Malls, Arenas and others is the question of how to manage waste in the most effective, sanitary, and sustainable way.
WCU and our Smart Trash team teamed up to analyze how the waste was being handled in two campus retail food court locations. It was clear that dedicating staff resources to emptying conventional waste bins dozens of times throughout the day was not only inefficient, but it prevented staff members from attending to other activities such as cleaning tables and restocking items during peak hours. The team replaced approximately 8-10 waste bins with 3 Impactor® units in each of the two locations. The impact was immediate, and the benefits to the overall operation were noted.

In the initial consultation, I had a vision of what I wanted our new conference facilities to look like and what capabilities I wanted to incorporate from inception.
